Mayfair is one of London’s most exclusive districts. Nestled between Green Park to the east and Hyde Park to the west, Mayfair’s local landmarks include Buckingham Palace, Harrods and Apsley House.
Hotels
In this thin slice of London you’ll find the capital’s most stylish and luxurious hotels. One of the most spectacular Mayfair hotels comes from Millennium Hotels: the Millennium Hotel London Mayfair. The hotel’s appearance is simply stunning, housed inside a large 18th century Georgian mansion overlooking Grosvenor Square. The interior is decorated in accordance with the building’s façade, with all the rich furniture, ceiling roses and grand meeting places you’d expect from a period mansion. The hotel has an award-winning restaurant too.
Shopping
You really are spoiled for choice in this corner of London. From Harrods and Harvey Nichols to Cartier, Prada Yves St Laurent, Gucci and Giorgio Armani your upmarket lifestyle brands are all covered. However, if your budget is more modest, you don’t have to just settle for window shopping. At the other end of Park Lane is Oxford Street, the original ‘high street’ complete with the best UK chain retail stores in the country including the flagship stores for Topshop and Nike as well as a huge House of Fraser, Debenhams and of course, Selfridges.
Restaurants
If you could nominate a region for Michelin stars Mayfair would get three. When it comes to fine dining, this part of London cannot be beaten. The names speak for themselves: Nobu, The Wolsely, Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s, Gaucho Grill… the list goes on and on. However, there are cheaper restaurants that will tantalise your taste buds too including vegetarian restaurant Titbits, Italian Tempo Restaurant and Bar and American steakhouse Maze Grill.
Sightseeing
The first sight on your list must be Buckingham Palace. It is one of the most famous landmarks in the world and synonymous with all things British.
Apsley House has the best address in town: Number One London. Inside this beautiful building, once home to the Duke of Wellington after his Battle of Waterloo victory, is one of London’s best art collections, which is less well known than the capital’s collections in Tate Britain and the National Gallery.
Mayfair is located in a particularly green area of London. Green Park and Hyde Park are two of the most beautiful city parks in the world. They act as real havens, enabling London residents and tourists alike to escape the hectic life playing out on the city streets.
